Visit the island of Noirmoutier for instance; it is linked to the mainland by a long and regularly submerged causeway and crossing at the onset of high tide always excites a sense of high adventure.

If you enjoy seafood, then a visit to Port du Bec is essential; nicknamed the ‘Chinese Harbour’ because of its unique labyrinth of wooden walkways, its speciality is freshly caught "Vendée Atlantique" oysters.

For a touch of gastronomy head for Mareuil-sur-Lay; here an imposing Romanesque Church and an ancient Chateau overlook this attractive wine producing town with its many charming shops and market. Be sure to sample the area’s sumptuous delicacies in a local family restaurant…along with the excellent locally produced wines.

Historically, the Vendée has always had long association with England; Richard the Lionheart’s Mother hailed from this region and he often based himself here as well…and when you look at what the Vendée has to offer, you can understand precisely why.
